What is an Arrhythmia?

Picture

An arrhythmia is the word that we use to describe an abnormality with the way that the heart beats.  This could suggest that the heart is going to slow, too fast, or in an irregular rhythm.
Often the term is used for non-specific conditions and does not necessarily imply a disease process.
An Electrocardiogram (ECG) can help diagnose an arrhythmia but if this is intermittent a Holter monitor is more helpful.
