What is a Healthy Heart check up?As doctors we understand that heart disease is a significant health problem that is responsible for a large number of deaths in Europe every year. It is also a disease that comes in many forms with a high degree of worry to you, as our patient. We understand that there are many questions that you may have about your health that could prompt you to take the decision to see a cardiologist. You may have questions about your blood pressure, or cholesterol levels. It could be that you have heard that diabetic patients can have a higher risk of heart disease and want to know if you are at risk. Maybe you need advice with your diet and nutrition for your heart, to lose weight or to stop smoking. For many, the decision to see a cardiologist as a preventative measure is of upmost importance, believing that early detection of disease can help minimise any risks or problems later on in life.
I have decided to see a cardiologist. What next? The first step in having your health concerns addressed is to give us a call. Dr Theodorou will have an introductory discussion on the telephone with you, before arranging a mutually convenient time to attend the practice. This will help him to establish your health concerns beforehand. Upon your arrival at the practice you will meet with Dr Theodorou and take the initial step, having a thorough discussion by taking a full medical history and addressing each concern that you may have. Then he will examine you and perform a routine ECG. Once the examination and ECG test are complete, you will discuss the next appropriate steps.
Will I need more tests? At our practice we do not believe that one size fits all. The outcome of your initial consultation and ECG test will help your doctor to make an initial assessment, and then together with you decide on the next necessary steps. It may be that discussion and advice is the most appropriate care for you, and therefore any further testing may not be warranted. However if any other tests or future follow up are required this will be discussed and agreed with you at this point.
